We know that there are many risks associated with Herndon car accidents. There is the chance of a brain injury, paralysis, even death. But did you know that one of the potential outcomes of a car crash is chronic pain? That’s what researchers are saying.
A study conducted by researchers at the University of Aberdeen School of Medicine and Dentistry in Scotland found that car accident victims who suffered injuries are more likely to develop chronic pain than after other physical traumatic events.
Chronic Pain More Prevalent in Car Accident Victims
During the study, 2,069 individuals gave researchers information about musculoskeletal pain and associated distress at three times over four years. Researchers then asked a series of questions, which included whether they were involved in a car crash. They discovered that people who stated that they had been in a traffic accident had an 84% higher risk of suffering from chronic pain.
However, despite these findings, the study authors believe that more research still needs to be done.
"Further research should focus on the unique aspects of an auto accident and the individual's reaction to this particular trauma that causes the increased risk of chronic widespread pain onset," explained Gareth Jones, of the University of Aberdeen School of Medicine and Dentistry in Scotland.
The study was published in the March 21 issue of the journal Arthritis Care & Research.
What to do if You Have Been Hurt in a Herndon Car Accident
As you can see, not every repercussion of a car accident is immediately apparent. Some injuries and pain don’t surface until weeks or months after the event. Since car accident claims can be tricky, it is best to consult with a Herndon car accident attorney.
