Are Virginia Distracted Drivers Getting You Down?

Our state has a law in place that bans texting and driving, but that’s not all. In the Commonwealth of Virginia, drivers under the age of 18 are not allowed to use cell phones while driving.

Even with all of the steps being taken to curb distracted driving, smartphones, GPS devices, iPods and other electronic gadgets are taking our attention away from the road. The result? Serious, even deadly Virginia car accidents.

According to the “2010 Virginia Traffic Crash Facts” report released by the Virginia Highway Safety Office, distractions are one of the many actions that can lead to fatal crashes. In 2010, driver distractions ranked number 12 in the long list of activities associated with deadly accidents in our state. In fact, among the thousands of accidents that occurred that year, 3,912 of the drivers involved were distracted. One reported accident involving a train and vehicle in 2010 was linked to a distracted driver. That is almost hard to fathom.

Driver Distractions Come in Many Forms

Distractions come in many shapes and sizes from a small smartphone to a child in the backseat. It is crucial to direct your attention to the driving task at hand. You don’t want to become another statistic in the annual traffic facts report.

If a distracted driver has hurt you or a loved one, you may be able to recover damages. Learn more by ordering a copy of the book, Five Deadly Sins That Can Wreck Your Injury Claim.
