They are typically the first ones on the scene of a terrible Manassas car accident. They are the ones who risk their lives to save others from an unfortunate fate. Firefighters frequently put their selves in danger, as they attempt to rescue auto accident victims.
Just last week, The Washington Post reported that the Manassas City Council will be using a $1.4 million federal grant to boost the city’s fire and rescue department’s staff. The plan is to hire 12 people, which will help the department get closer to the national staffing standards.
The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant will be used to pay for the additional staff and will cover their salaries for the next two years. After that time period, the city will fund the new firefighters. Manassas Fire Chief Brett Bowman said that the grant is typically used to bolster staffing in critical operating units.
